anyone else embarrassed to hear Paul O’Connell being asked was the Lions victory?

By admin · July 6, 2009 · Filed in Lions Rugby Team

today his proudest rugby moment.

Like cringe worthy , how woeful is that. Does the rugby commentator expert not knew he won the grand slam this year, and the Heineken cup last year. The lions won today, against a SA B team, and lost the tour.

I admired O’Connell’s answer, just saying any win is something to be proud of, and not asking the man, "are you for real?"

I think he replied correctly. The South Africans won the series. It doesn’t matter that the Lions scored the most tries and points over the three matches, the fact is it’s three separate matches. He handled it well but it was a stupid question.

Some of those commentators don’t know the difference beween a scrum and a bum.

I understand your concern, but you know, the Lions were wonderful today and I am very proud of them all.

No I don’t think it was as daft as you seem to think! The Lions tour every four years so you may only get to play for them once or possibly twice in your life time. The grand slam and all other competitions are played yearly except the world cup were you play alongside your county men who you may have done for years. So to win a Lions game against the best team in the world on home soil is a great achievement. Also I take issue with anyone who reckons that the Boks fielded a second string. 2 of the players were banned for dangerous play in previous games. Also the lions had to make 7 changes through injury. It must be great for some who I assume have never played to be so flippant. The Lions should have won the last game had the ref done as he should and sent the player off instead of 10 minutes after the game he got 6 week ban however the damage was already done they had nobbled another key player. The real point is that the lions stood up and played rugby outscoring the Boks in their own country overall but their true class showed as it always does.
