was it still a good idea to take ronan ogara and jamie heaslip on the lions tour?
should ryan jones have been on the tour party from the start. Heaslip saw the physicality and backed out and ronan ogara is just a baby
I think you are under rating Ogara.

Heaslip was the on form number 8 on that tour, so he earned his place. O’gara would of been needed as a back up kicker in any means. That arguement can be applied to many players on the tour.

Did you actually watch any of the games? The fact that Spies was virtually anonymous during the first two tests speaks volumes about how well Heaslip played.
Who would you have chosen – Powell? Possibly the worst no. 8 in international rugby. Doesn’t tackle, doesn’t ruck, gets in the way of the backs while he’s keeping away from the rough stuff. Did you see him last Tuesday – the guy thought he was playing full back or left wing – one unopposed 15m run before losing possession on contact.
O’Gara had a nightmare 10 minutes on Saturday, but to call him a baby – grow up!

Heaslip has been the best 8 on tour, playing well and earning selection ahead of Andy Powell (who gives away possession or a penalty almost every time he carries the ball).
Heaslip was far superior to the off form Ryan Jones during the 6 nations and the Heineken Cup – the two main competitions that the Lions selectors judged players on.
Jones didn’t deserve to get picked – when was the last time he played well? Heaslip did and was good vs the Boks on Saturday, shackling the dangerous Pierre Spies and winning ball at the breakdown and lineout i.e doing the dirty work Jones and Powell neglect to perform.
O’Gara had a nightmare when he came on but still deserved to tour after some good performances for Munster – which out-half from Britain or Ireland that didn’t go would you have had ahead of him?
And just remember everyone has a bad day – it was Mears, Vickery. Monye and S.Jones in the first test and O’Gara in the 2nd.
